Do not envy the wicked, do not desire their company;
for their hearts plot violence, and their lips talk about making trouble. Proverbs 24:1-2
This is a verse that I scratch my head at because it seems so obvious, doesn’t it? Why would we want to associate with “the wicked?”
But the truth is we do so more regularly than we like. The apostle Paul talked about this in 1 Corinthians 5:9-10: “I wrote to you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people -not at all meaning the people of this world who are immoral, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters. In that case you would have to leave this world.”
Let’s fact it, we rub shoulders with shady people. We do, but we don’t need to hang out with them when it’s not business related. The person may even have influence or wealth or a modicum of fame, but it’s not worth it.
As the saying goes, be careful who you hang out with, you may become like that person one day.
