Starting a quarrel is like breaching a dam; so drop the matter before a dispute breaks out. Proverbs 17:14
Why is it that even in the midst of a quarrel we don’t like to end because we want to be right? When the phrase “you always have to have the last word” is spoken, it proves the person’s point because even if you disagree, you have the last word!
There is a time and a place for honest debate but the louder the debate gets, the angrier the parties become. It is tough to just “let it go,” but let it go we must. Before you know it, feelings get hurt because things are said that would normally not come up. We can even resort to attacking the other person unfairly.
Lord, would you show us where that line is each and every time we get to it so that you can help us resist the urge to be right – even when we are wrong! Amen.
