You crown the year with your bounty, and your carts overflow with abundance. Psalm 65:11
When the Holy Spirit is alive and active in our lives, we will not lack for anything. We won’t need to worry about things out of our control. We won’t feel compelled to complain or gossip. In effect, we should be content. Doubts and fears creep in, as well as a lot of “what if” questions. What if I get rejected? What if I mess up? What if I need to go this alone?
I’m positive I’ve used this analogy before but when you’re playing table tennis, if you concentrate on getting the ball back over the net, you will win 80% of the time. If however, you decide to put front spins, back spins, and overhand spins on the ball, you decrease that 80% greatly. Why? Because you’ve taken your eyes off the goal: get the ball over the nest. Instead, you’re more enamored with being fancy then getting it over the net.
Similarly, the Christian life is about getting up, going to work, interacting with people, finding time to read the Bible and pray, getting home, spending time with the family, then doing it all over again the next day. Some find that exercise incredibly boring, so they begin to spice up their Christianity with seminars and extrabiblical teaching and getting those extra special blessing from a myriad of TV preachers. Many have gone astray morally and biblically, and lost their way trying to spice up their faith. They lost focus on what mattered most.
Take time to memorize this verse. It will help to remind us to be content.
His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 2 Peter 1:3
