Endless Supply of Vastness

8 May he rule from sea to sea and from the River to the ends of the earth. Psalm 72:8

I love looking out into the ocean. I can stare out into the vastness for hours. The waves crashing on the beach are soothing.

Normally when we do that we are seeing but a tiny bit of the water that is out there. And that’s just what we can see on the surface as the waters is often thousands of yards deep. So when David wrote that God will rule from sea to sea, it’s an absolutely impossible endeavor for anyone less than God. He was speaking in metaphors that we could understand, though we really don’t know the vastness of it all.

Nor do we know the vastness of God Himself. We only get glimpses, and what we see we can stare in wonder. For if the seas are impossible to comprehend, and God created the seas, we will never ever be able to comprehend all that God is.

That’s a good thing really.
