A wise man fears the LORD and shuns evil, but a fool is hotheaded and reckless. Proverb 14:16

Fearing the LORD and shunning evil are two sides to the same coin. It’s difficult to imagine how you could do one without doing the other.

Fearing the LORD doesn’t come to us naturally. It’s merely a reminder to us that God is the creator and we are only his creation, nothing more and certainly nothing less. We often forget that very basic point and switch the two roles around, or we forget that God even exists.

But God does exist and He deserves to be feared. We need to have that basic fear because otherwise we would become monsters when we try to be masters our own existence.

Ask God to continually give you a realistic sense of who you are and who He is.
