21 After further threats they let them go. They could not decide how to punish them, because all the people were praising God for what had happened. 22 For the man who was miraculously healed was over forty years old. Acts 4:21-22

The leaders who were persecuting Peter and John had the reverse kind of fear that leaders had when they were questioning Jesus. Pilate had the opposite fear too. Whereas Pilate and the leaders holding Jesus feared what the people would do if they released Jesus, these leaders feared what the people would do if they held onto Peter and John.
