Fifth Commandment Revisited

If a man curses his father or mother, his lamp will be snuffed out in pitch darkness. Proverbs 20:20

This verse is obviously referencing the fifth commandment of “Honor your father and mother.” It’s a reminder to us that no matter how removed or distant your parents are from you (physically or emotionally), it’s not in our best interests to curse or dishonor them.

For some reading this, it must be next to impossible to hear because of wrongs been done in the past. I understand that, I do. But if we are to be true to the Word of God, this verse applies to us as well. It certainly doesn’t mean you have to be palsy walsy with those who have hurt you, but you don’t need to go out of your way to curse them either. You know instinctively where that line is and when you cross over. You will know what to do.
