27 Early the next morning Abraham got up and returned to the place where he had stood before the Lord. 28 He looked down toward Sodom and Gomorrah, toward all the land of the plain, and he saw dense smoke rising from the land, like smoke from a furnace.

29 So when God destroyed the cities of the plain, he remembered Abraham, and he brought Lot out of the catastrophe that overthrew the cities where Lot had lived. Genesis 19:27-29

What went through Abraham’s mind when he saw the dense smoke rising from Sodom and Gomorrah? Was he shocked? He didn’t know what it was about, but he knew to a small extent what went on there. He knew about the wickedness and probably the trouble Lot would get himself into for being there. The Lord spared Abraham because the Lord had great things planned for him. I’m still trying to understand what the Lord had in store for Lot. As we’ll see next, Lot’s situation went from bad to weird.

I read this and come way with the conclusion that God uses flawed people. But we knew that already. All the world has seen their flaws.

Recall Abraham did unpleasant things in the past. Now Lot. That the Lord chooses to still use an Abraham, Sarah, or Lot is simply remarkable.

Plus He still will use us.
