Flip-Flopping

Like a coating of silver dross on earthenware are fervent lips with an evil heart. Proverbs 26:23

Politicians around the world are noted for talking out both sides of their mouths. By that I mean generally they will say what they need to at the moment in order to garner votes. They may say two different things at two different meetings within the hour if they think it will help them. It’s called flip-flopping on the issues. Do they have evil hearts necessarily? No, but lying seems to be part of their DNA. Please note, there are politicians who don’t lie but they are clearly few and far between.

So at the beginning of this Presidential election cycle, what are we to make of the politicians who will do what it takes to get our vote? First, we need to examine their records where it matters to us. How have they voted already on key issues? This is what the politician has done, not said. Of course, people do change over the course of the years but if they are changing their stances on a lot of issues, the candidate can very easily change back to their original position because, after all, it’s how they voted.

Second, who are their political enemies? I’m not talking about the opposing party, per se, but who gets wrankled and bent out of shape when that person takes a stand on an issue? When you identify the enemies, you get a pretty good idea of how they stand on an issue.

Lastly, is it someone you’d be willing to pray for? This seems like an odd requirement but if it’d be very difficult person to pray for, then you might have your answer.

Nobody is perfect, and that is really true with our politicians. However, we still must vote for the person who will fairly represent our issues. Now would be a good time to pray for this nation and even moreso as Election Day approaches in eleven months.
