12 This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of the Lord’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God. 13 Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, others will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else. 14 And in their prayers for you their hearts will go out to you, because of the surpassing grace God has given you. 15 Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift! 2 Corinthians 9:12-15
Paul concluded the chapter on generous giving by re-emphasizing the unseen benefits of their giving. When churches are struggling or in their early beginnings, they are willing to accept help from anyplace they can get it. It’s tough growing a new ministry. While they can’t repay financially at the moment, they are able to bless the givers in prayer. It’s exactly how the church is supposed to work! After the new church is established, then they can also help newer ministries, and even begin building schools, hospitals, orphanages, and more churches.
God’s “economy” is much different than ours. We hold on and hoard; He gives and gives and gives. The fountain of grace and giving is always flowing in His economy.
Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!
