Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. John 15:13-15
With these three verses Jesus is changing the nature of the relationship he has with the Disciples. What’s interesting about this passage is the tail end of verse 15: “everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.” Stop and think about that for a second. The Father taught Jesus many things, and what did Jesus do? He passed it all on to us. He left nothing out.
Colossians 2:9-10 touches upon this point: “For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and in Christ you have been brought to fullness. . .”
Often we get into the trap of wanting to know the next step in our lives because we think it will help us. It’s doubtful it’s the case but we wonder anyhow. This verse is telling us that because we are friends of Christ we have everything we need to know because it was passed on down to us that way.
As our most trusted Friend, “His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.” 2 Peter 1:3
