G.I.G.O.

4 My heart is in anguish within me;
the terrors of death have fallen on me.
5 Fear and trembling have beset me;
horror has overwhelmed me. Psalm 55:4-5

King David had really high highs and really low lows! He’s desperate here. I suspect that his internal turmoil has a big affect on what is happening on the outside. In other words, I think all the weight of his sin is influencing his words here. To be certain, he was a hunted man, but combine that with carrying the weight of your sins on your shoulders, and it’s no wonder he’s in such a mess.

It happens with us, though probably not to such an extreme. What I mean by that is that what is happening on our inside affects what comes out of our mouths

But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these are the things that make you ritually unclean. For from your heart come the evil ideas which lead you to kill, commit adultery, and do other immoral things; to rob, lie, and slander others. Matthew 15:18-10

It seems to be even more prevalent in our dreams. As we try to process information, the weirdest dreams will emerge. You can usually trace it back to something heard or seen or said a night or two before.

Guard your heart for it is the wellspring of life. Proverbs 4:23

**G.I.G.O. is an old computer programming term for ‘garbage in garbage out.’
