The stingy are eager to get rich and are unaware that poverty awaits them. Proverbs 28:22
In 2 Corinthians 9:7 the Apostle Paul notes “So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver“. One of the marks of a Christian should be our generosity. For instance, how well do you tip the wait staff? But you might ask, “is that really important?”
A Pastor friend of mine took us out for Sunday dinner one time and he picked up the check. I offered to lay down a tip and he even refused that. He made a note of saying that he tips very well wherever he goes because out of all the reasons someone might reject Christianity, he didn’t want it to be because the waitstaff saw a table bow to pray and was pathetically miserly in tipping. Like it or not, the waitstaff will equate the two: tipping and praying. At the very least you won’t be called names because of your poor tipping practices.
Are there other areas you could be more generous with your money? Don’t be afraid to let it go once in a while. As someone once told me “it’s only green paper with dead presidents on it.”
