Giving It Over

10 But may you have mercy on me, Lord;
raise me up, that I may repay them. Psalm 41:10

This verse is kind of a mixed bag of needing help and wanting revenge. Deuteronomy 32:35, Romans 12:19, and Hebrews 10:30 all say the same thing: “It is mine to avenge, says the Lord. I will repay.”

While David’s heart is in the right place, you can see his earthly self seeping out. We all understand this emotion because we know what wanting revenge is all about. We’ve also experienced what it’s like to actually get revenge and how unfulfilling that is. It’s tough to sit back and wait until the appointed time when the Lord will take care of it. It’s not wrong to have the emotion, but it’s wrong to act on it.

Are you harboring bitter feelings towards someone? Now is a good time to turn it over to the Lord. I know, you’re saying “it’s not easy and you don’t know what it’s like”, and you would be right. But the bitterness you feel only eats at you and not the person you are bitter towards.

Just give it over. It’s worth it.
