Glancing and Gazing

My mouth is filled with your praise, declaring your splendor all day long. Psalm 71:8

Did David go from “glory to glory” in his life? Hardly, but reading these types of verses scattered throughout the Psalms would indicate that, wouldn’t it? We see throughout David’s writing that he had very high highs and very low lows. So then, how can he make this statement?

Perhaps we can look at it a different way. Many of us were taught that when we pray to focus a bit of our attention on our problems and a whole lot more on the God who can solve those problems. In other words, glance at our problems and gaze at the Lord.

So, yes, David had big emotional and spiritual ups and downs, but he also understood where his ultimate strength and hope lay: in the Lord God Almighty.
