15 and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:15-17
The Bible can equip us for good works. Whether it’s passing out food in the inner city mission or even being nice to a total stranger, the Bible equips us. We certainly don’t understand how the spirit of God moves through the Scriptures. Of course it’s inspirational and full of wisdom, but powerful? How is it powerful?
Well, let me ask you this, no matter what stage in life you’re in, why are you reading these words? It’s obviously not through my pleasant words I wrote the night before you read this. It’s because the Holy Spirit works through the Word of God in the hearts of men, women, and children across the world.
Your life was probably changed by the words written in that book 2000+ years ago.
You read a passage you’ve read all your life, and it speaks to you in 2018, when this post was written. In 1999 when you first read that passage, you just glossed over it. It “didn’t do anything for” you. It’s because the Bible speaks to us where we are.
Unfortunately we understimate its power every day. We go through the motions of reading because it’s something we were taught to do.
But the Bible is God-breathed. Not inspirational, but inspired. God Himself breathed life into this book. You can probably argue all day long with non-believers about how it was inspired, but you know the difference.
It changed you.
