God of the Everyday

keeping you from the immoral woman, from the smooth tongue of the wayward wife.
Do not lust in your heart after her beauty or let her captivate you with her eyes,
for the prostitute reduces you to a loaf of bread, and the adulteress preys upon your very life.
Proverbs 6:24-26

I realize that many readers of this devotional are women, and it may seem like these verses have little to no meaning for you. Since all Scripture is useful for teaching and correcting and training, I know that it does have meaning for you.

The last two days I’ve been urging us all to memorize Scripture more and more, partly because I’m walking through the Book of Proverbs, but also because it’s a powerful habit to get into. The more you allow the Spirit of God to permeate your soul, the more likely you are to keep on the “straight and narrow.”

Obviously there have been many men and women of God who knew the Word of God front and back but fell headlong into sexual immorality. It’s a gentle reminder to me that we are all vulnerable when it involves the opposite sex, some more so than others. In other words, no one is immune.

However, we do have a God who delights in us calling out to Him in our hour of need. As the Word of God burrows into the fabric of our being, we begin to see the Spirit of God move through His Scripture to meet those needs.

Memorize the Word, then ask Him to use it in everyday situations.

Those who follow Christ can help others follow Him too. Truly this is what you are doing. And, to know Christ, the Living Word, is to love the Bible which is the written Word. God Bless
