Good Eye vs. Bad Eye

22 “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. 23 But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!

24 “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money. Matthew 6:22-24

Taken in context of the previous verse and the verse that follows, the good eye sees God as the master, whereas the bad eye sees money as the master.

If God is your master, money cannot be – and vice versa. It’s not a stretch to say that the two masters are not even close in value.

The choice between the two was a problem in Jesus’ day and it’s a problem today.

Yes, we have to earn money to make a living but in the end, the more we can store up in heaven, the more we see God’s blessing. We store up those treasures as a service and devotion to God. The blessings come as a result of that devotion.

The tighter grip we have on money, the more difficult it is to store up those blessings.

So how do maintain that good eye? It’s a daily pursuit of Christ. If you feel your grip is getting tighter on money, give some away.
