Hear my voice when I call, Lord;
be merciful to me and answer me.
My heart says of you, “Seek his face!”
Your face, Lord, I will seek.
Do not hide your face from me,
do not turn your servant away in anger;
you have been my helper.
Do not reject me or forsake me,
God my Savior.
Though my father and mother forsake me,
the Lord will receive me. Psalm 27:7-10
Now a prominent pastor and radio talk show host in the Washington DC area, our class president at Moody gave a little talk that went something like this:
When asked to speak I thought of all the things I could talk about, all the subjects that I’ve wanted to say to the masses, all my ideas I wanted to convey. But I also realize that I am not a gifted speaker and I could fall flat on my face.
He continued in this light for about five minutes. He concluded his talk:
But I know that even if I fall flat on my face and all my listeners boo and stone me and I am never asked to speak again, I know one thing’s for sure: My mom loves me!
Here in this passage, David does one better! “Though my mother and father forsake me, the Lord will receive me!”
It’s just one more assurance that we really are in good hands.
