Give me a sign of your goodness, that my enemies may see it and be put to shame, for you, Lord, have helped me and comforted me. Psalm 86:17

This is certainly a prayer we probably have prayed: “show us a sign.” Gideon said it. Those following Jesus said it. Fortunately, God has been showing us signs all along. Sometimes it’s the natural beauty of the universe. It could be good health, lots of food and fresh water. We don’t quite realize how good we have it in the West. We don’t always see the goodness because of the day-to-day cares of the world.

There is goodness to be found all around us.

Last week the church I attend had a memorial service for a former local firefighter. The entire auditorium was packed, and about 50 church people showed up to help with hosting, food, everything. The family of the deceased and other people in the auditorium was impressed that the church stepped up to the plate to help with this even though very few people in the congregation had actually known the man. It was a testament to God’s goodness in the lives of His people.
