15 (John testified concerning him. He cried out, saying, “This is the one I spoke about when I said, ‘He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’”) 16 Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given. 17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
The law showed us we were sinners, and pointed to the Messiah – the truth.
Jesus came and told us we were sinners but He also gave us a way out of the mess we found ourselves in (truth and grace). This verse sums up the difference between the two testaments.
We all benefit from that Grace, and it’s obviously not something we could have done ourselves in case we ever get to thinking highly of ourselves.
No, the grace of Jesus Christ is something we will marvel at through the ages.
