Grace Replacing Grace

Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known. John 1:16-18

To clear up definitions before we start: grace is God giving us what we don’t deserve, while mercy is God NOT giving us what we do deserve.

Before Christ came, God had given the world grace through the law. Now comes a man who is full of grace and truth. He is the essence of grace. We certainly didn’t deserve what God had given in the form of his Son, Jesus Christ. In that sense He had tremendous mercy on us.

Now, we have an opportunity to extend that grace to others, grace freely and generously flowing from us. What that looks like is different for each of us.

Grace on the roads.
Grace at work.
Grace in the grocery store.
Grace at home with your family.
Grace in church and with the leadership.
Grace in your conversations.
Grace with your actions.
