10 Concerning this salvation, the prophets, who spoke of the grace that was to come to you, searched intently and with the greatest care, 11 trying to find out the time and circumstances to which the Spirit of Christ in them was pointing when he predicted the sufferings of the Messiah and the glories that would follow. 12 It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you, when they spoke of the things that have now been told you by those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. Even angels long to look into these things.
1 Peter 1:10-12
We have the distinct advantage of living after Christ was on Earth. The prophets could only hope to know about Him but they still searched for signs and clues.
We know everything God wanted us to know about Jesus’ time on Earth. The Spirit illuminates some of these things because we don’t always pick up on obvious spiritual things.
What a privilege we have in knowing what we know about the Messiah.
The other thing interesting about this passage is that even the angels don’t know some of the things we know about the Messiah’s sufferings and His glories. Our view of angels, unfortunately, is tainted by what Hollywood tells us about them.
We are a unique people with a message – the Good News – that transforms people’s lives.
O that God would burn that statement into our minds and hearts!
