16 For we did not follow cleverly devised stories when we told you about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ in power, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.
2 Peter 1:16
Peter was one of the few men ever who witnessed the works and miracles of Jesus. As a firsthand witness, his account is to be believed.
Did he know what he was seeing at the time? I suspect he was still trying to process a lot of what was happening in real time, much like we would have to.
It’s evident that he had Aha! moments after Jesus left the earth when the things Jesus did made sense now but they didn’t at the time.
In the same boat, we would do the same.
But notice, he was still pointing to Jesus. Even as a truthful eyewitness, he probably blushed at others pointing him out as an eyewitness, only because it put more emphasis on him and not Christ.
That’s the point to remember in this and the apostle John said it best: we must decrease and He must increase.
