He Wants Us

7 The end of all things is near. Therefore be alert and of sober mind so that you may pray.

1 Peter 4:7

If the first half of this verse was true when it was written, it’s even more true now. We are living in the Final Days. The Day of the Lord’s Return is imminent. perhaps today, perhaps a year or two from now, but it’s never been nearer than now.

What’s Peter’s admonition?

Be alert. Pray. Think clearly about important things.

Those are not onerous tasks, though we tend to overthink and question prayer.

We wonder why a sovereign God wants us to pray.
We see answers to prayer and many prayers go unanswered and get disheartened because He’s not answering them all.

But the important part is that we pray and seek Him. The subject of our prayer (the list and requests), while not irrelevant, is not what God wants from us. He wants our heart and attention. He wants us to be thinking about spiritual matters in a worldly context.

He wants us.
