Here Today, Gone Tomorrow

The light of the righteous shines brightly, but the lamp of the wicked is snuffed out. Proverbs 13:9

The idea of a candle suddenly being snuffed out is very practical. One day there is light; the next day it’s pitch black. Often, the person without the benefit of a light is searching desperately in the dark. They may put on a good front but they are stretching out their hands hoping not to bump into anything. What a picture story!

That’s why they need the Light of the Righteous. We can help shine that Light into their lives. They may reject it at first because after they’ve wandered in darkness, that initial burst of light is blinding. And think of what a person says when you shine it in their faces: “get that light out of my face!”

The task for today is to consider how you might use this picture of light and darkness in your own life. We each know those walking in darkness. Pray for that person. Pray that God will open up a solid lead into their lives.
