Holes and Vacuums

My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the Lord;
my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God. Psalm 84:2

Blaise Pascal once said that there is a God-shaped vacuum in each of us. Only God can fill. Only God can satisfy.

I would add that there is also a family-shaped vacuum, a friend-shaped vacuum, and a relationship-shaped vacuum that certain people can fill. When they leave this earth, nothing this side of heaven can fill that void.

I wouldn’t be out of line thinking there is a money-shaped hole or a fame-shaped hole that neither fame nor fortune can ever satisfy. The history books are filled with millions of people who went to their graves trying to fill those holes. They just do not satisfy.

So today, would you just cry out to God? In the quiet times in your day, just reflect on the Lord’s goodness. Continue to fill that God-shaped vacuum.
