5 It does not dishonor others, 1 Corinthians 13:5
This is a fairly self-explanatory trait, one in which is easy to violate without realizing it. When we fail to recognize people as valuable in the sight of God, we dishonor them. We’re seeing a lot of that in Congress and Hollywood with the harassment cases. Those who were guilty harassed and abused those who were under their trust.
But we don’t have to go to that extreme to dishonor others. When we talk bad about a person or belittle them – even if they never hear us – we are not showing love. It’s especially important when we’re with others who know us and what we stand for. There’s often a fine line between talking bad about someone or just talking about ways to solve a problem (when that person is the problem).
One character trait at a time, God is teaching us about love. We shouldn’t have to learn it over and over again, but we do.
