How’d We Do?

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline. Proverbs 1:7

A year ago, I challenged the readers of this devotional to memorize passages of Scripture. How’d we do? Were you able to find the time each day to memorize and internalize the Word of God.

Truth be known, after about March or April, I forgot about the challenge. I had taken multiple trips where I could have easily memorized and internalized but didn’t. I did it for a few hours but I had my mind on other things and it didn’t seem like things were sticking. Then, in November I was asked to say a few words at a nursing home on a Sunday morning and while I had the Bible open to that passage, the words just flowed from my mouth. Even though I didn’t think I had memorized it, the Word of God was doing its work deep within my soul.

Now, could I have done more? Absolutely. And that’s the beauty of it, the more we are able to wash over us, the more the Word of God can work in our lives.

As the New Year gains traction, I invite you once again to memorize. Find a verse or two. Memorize and get it flowing deep within your spirit. You’ll be glad you did.
