Humility

One man pretends to be rich, yet has nothing; another pretends to be poor, yet has great wealth. Proverbs 13:7

I suspect that very few people wish to be poor. The entire American society frowns on it. You never see a book titled, “Poor Dad, Poor Dad,” or “How to Live Like a Poor Man” or “I’m So Happy I’m Working on the Poor Farm Now.” It’s just not ingrained in our thinking. Yet Scripture tells us that someone who pretends to be poor has great wealth.

Why?

You can see life from a very different standpoint. You don’t have to pretend to have something you don’t. You don’t have to keep up with the Joneses. You get to see how others are downtrodden and looked down upon. It’s certainly worth considering as we face these uncertain economic times. We may actually get a chance to experience poverty without wanting to!
