Hunger and A Remedy

7 He upholds the cause of the oppressed
and gives food to the hungry. Psalm 146:7

Are you hungry? Are you really hungry?

It’s been a long time since I’ve really been physically hungry. Sure, my stomach starts to growl if I’m an hour after my appointed meal time. And if I missed a meal or two every now and again, I’m sure I won’t starve. (I could go a couple of weeks like that in fact.)

But I’m not talking about physical food. I’m talking about spiritual food. Too often, we become like our physical selves. We are not in terrible need but we expect it to be right on time (10 or 11 every Sunday morning?). But like our bodies, we can get fat and lazy with what we’ve taken in.

The remedy? Emptying ourselves for others.

I didn’t say it was easy, but that is a remedy.
