Hungrier We Were

She has sent out her maids, and she calls from the highest point of the city.
“Let all who are simple come in here!” she says to those who lack judgment.
Proverbs 9:3-4

When I was young I recall my mother yelling out the door for me and my brother to come to dinner. She had prepared our meal for us and was ready to serve it to us. The hungrier we were, the faster we came running. This is the picture we get from these verses.

How hungry are we for the wisdom that God provides? But because we are not instantly gratified with a pound of wisdom, for instance, we lose heart and give up seeking and praying and observing and crying out to God for it.

The very fact that it’s the theme of an entire book of the Bible should be an eye-opener to us of its importance. I think if we knew the impact it could have on our lives, we’d be praying for it hourly.
