I Am Only One

The memory of the righteous will be a blessing, but the name of the wicked will rot. Proverbs 10:7

Rarely are there memorials or statues dedicated to the truly wicked. For instance, men like Stalin and Hitler are always disparaged by the masses – and rightly so. Truly evil men. No one wants to associate themselves with these names.

On the other hand, history books are filled with men who have served humanity in a positive and uplifting way: Wilberforce, Moody, Luther, etc. These men were ahead of their times and did things greater than themselves, many being led by the Hand of God.

I daresay that none of us will rise to their stature, but we can make a difference where we are. We need to continue to be consistent, faithful, and willing in what we do “for God.” Our salvation and eternity is not dependent on such work; that work was done completely on the cross.

But we should live our lives so that, like Edward Everett Hale, we can say: “I am only one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. And I will not let what I cannot do interfere with what I can do.”
