The sayings of Agur son of Jakeh—an inspired utterance.
This man’s utterance to Ithiel:
“I am weary, God, but I can prevail.” Proverbs 30:1
Have you ever had those frustrating or wearying days when you just don’t know how you can make it to tomorrow? Sometimes you just want to cry!
Well, welcome to the Human Race! We all go through these periods of ups and downs when we’re on top of the world, and others when we’re in the valley of the shadow of death. It gets frighteningly weary.
If you’ve read this devotional at all in the past, you’ll know that there are at least two solutions to the problem. First, we can prevail because obviously the Lord refreshes us when we need it. It requires us to call out to Him but that is very natural to us. It may even come in the form of a complaint. It makes no matter to God since He wants us to come to him. In fact, He longs for us to come to Him, as the song says, “just as I am.”
Secondly, we can prevail because we have others around us. This Christian life is best lived in community with like-minded people. Sure they can be annoying and frustrating at times but you need them. And they need you.
Yes we all grow weary in life, but, as Agur son of Jakeh writes, we can prevail.
