11 If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me
and the light become night around me,”
12 even the darkness will not be dark to you;
the night will shine like the day,
for darkness is as light to you. Psalm 139:11-12
A clear theme throughout the Bible is light versus darkness. It’s also a very distinct metaphor for good vs. evil, right vs. wrong, and hiding vs. being exposed.
David continued to voice the extremes to which God would go to rescue us.
Let me just stop here and ask the obvious question, “Why?”
Why does He go to such extremes?
Why does He feel the need to rescue us?
Why does He make it so there is nowhere to run?
Have you ever asked these questions? Have you ever considered God’s endless pursuit of the people He created? Why would He go to such trouble? Why would He care?
The answer to those questions is simple and profound if we can grasp it. He does all of this because it’s His character to do so.
Grasp this concept and an entirely new understanding of God opens up.
