I walk in the way of righteousness, along the paths of justice, Proverbs 8:20
Justice is one of those words that has different meanings to different people. In a way it has become a buzz word of sorts, one in which everyone wants it but no one really knows what it is. After all, “how could anyone be opposed to justice?”
Perhaps one way to define it is to talk about its opposite, injustice. We definitely know injustice when we see it. Often we hear or use the words, “that ain’t right.” Obviously the heinous crimes committed against people are clearly injustice: murder, rape, molestation, child trafficking, and unfortunately the list could go on for a mile. Righting those wrongs is justice.
But it doesn’t have to be that weighty or complicated. Doing the right thing in every setting pretty much sums up justice. That’s what a judge does in any given case. He or she weighs the evidence and makes the verdict. Justice is then handed down.
So, in order to do all of that, we need wisdom. And we get wisdom by asking for it.
