Innocence and Curiosity

Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!

You have set your glory
in the heavens.

Through the praise of children and infants
you have established a stronghold against your enemies,
to silence the foe and the avenger. Psalm 8:1-2

Many years ago I was talking with a very young Sunday School student and asked her about her absence the previous week. Janet answered, “I was sick, and I prayed and Jesus healed me.” Just like that. You can’t make it up. It’s perhaps one of the most powerful forces for good we have in this world: children with honest testimonies. As verse two says, it silences the foe!

It’s why the enemy is working overtime to go after the children within a society. He absolutely cannot stand their praise. And their praise is as pure as it gets.

Today, pray for the children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews in your life. Pray that God would shield them from the onslaught of the dregs of society and many of its degrading influences. Pray that they will be able to maintain their innocence and curiosity into their teens.

Beware of him who hates the laugh of a child. -Henry Ward Beecher
