It Ain’t Easy

16 Cover their faces with shame, Lord, so that they will seek your name.
17 May they ever be ashamed and dismayed; may they perish in disgrace. Psalm 83:16-17

Even in Asaph’s desire for God to rain down fire and brimstone on the rulers who troubled him, he wanted them to seek out God. As you read the verses, it appears his motives were not the purest but he tried. It’s not easy trying to “bless those who persecute you” especially when you’re in the midst of it.

What about you? When’s the last time you prayed for your enemies or those you perceive as your enemies? It is tough, isn’t it? But fortunately God is still working in us to become more like Him. And loving those who persecute or hate us is one of those things in the Christian life that does not come easy.
