It Will Destroy Me

Men do not despise a thief if he steals to satisfy his hunger when he is starving.
Yet if he is caught, he must pay sevenfold, though it costs him all the wealth of his house.
But a man who commits adultery lacks judgment; whoever does so destroys himself.
Proverbs 6:30-32

Why is it we’re never taught that sexual immorality destroys the person committing it? It destroys men and women alike. In fact, we hear everything but that reason: it feels good, we deserve to be happy, my spouse is mean-spirited, we need to be fulfilled etc etc.

“It will destroy me” never crosses the mind.

But our culture has certainly bought into those other mindsets.

In computer terminology, perhaps we need a mind reboot. We need to refresh our thinking to what God thinks about this issue. We already know God’s thoughts on it. Our thoughts should follow accordingly.

  1. This reminds me of something our pastor said once. He mentioned how Christians try to *avoid* sin. What we *need* to do is hate sin. There is a difference. Thanks for your blog post.
