Just as Fickle

34 Whenever God slew them, they would seek him; they eagerly turned to him again.
35 They remembered that God was their Rock, that God Most High was their Redeemer.
36 But then they would flatter him with their mouths, lying to him with their tongues; Psalm 78:34-36

The nation of Israel had a pronounced on-again, off-again relationship with the Lord. Sometimes it’s as if the light bulb went on one day, and it went off the next. Obviously there were good days and there were bad days. Old Testament writers documented this bipolar behavior well.

We shouldn’t criticize their behavior all that much because we’re probably just as fickle. We haven’t experienced the “water from the rock” miracle or the “crossing the Red Sea” miracle but God still works in our lives daily. He provides for our needs, loves us unconditionally, and is extremely patient with us.

While it’d be nice to go from mountaintop experience to mountaintop experience in our walk with Christ, our reality is the day to day grind of working through issues, loving God and loving people in the power of the Holy Spirit.

Yesterday He loved me,
Today He’ll do the same;
How long will it last?
Forever, praise His name. -Author Unknown
