4 They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. 5 But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry. 2 Timothy 4:4-5
We know from history that this is one of Paul’s final books that he wrote. He laid it all on the line for Timothy here. Life’s going to be hard but you’ve got an important job to do, Timothy.
Have you ever felt like that, like the whole world is on your shoulders. Those in the ministry feel like that a lot because they have a burden in a particular area and trying to sway others to their viewpoint is painful. People just won’t listen. Paul’s encouragement here was to just keep moving forward no matter how slow you think you’re going.
To the housewife with four kids, to the businessman stressed out about being overlooked for yet another promotion, to the janitor just eking out a living. Keep pressing on. Keep moving forward. You’re in a place right now that God can use you. Take advantage of it. Take some steps of faith.
But most importantly, keep your face towards heaven, and you’ll do just fine.
