4 You are my King and my God,
who decrees victories for Jacob. Psalm 44:4
Have you ever played a king for day, even if it was “King of the Hill” in your back yard. it was indeed good to be in control. Sure, there were power surges up the hill trying desperately to dethrone me, but I stayed on that hill for a good solid 10 minutes before being knocked down.
In this one instance we get a glimpse at the role of a king.
- He’s in control.
- He thwarts an enemy of the State any way he can.
- He makes judgments in undesirable circumstances.
- He administered justice.
Is He your king? Is He your God?
Those are two very basic questions that no one can answer but you.
The writer of this psalm, the sons of Korah, added what we might consider an explanation on why they might see God as their king and God. God should be our king and God not for what He gives us or does for us, but for who He is. It’s easy to confuse the two.
