For they cannot sleep till they do evil; they are robbed of slumber till they make someone fall.
They eat the bread of wickedness and drink the wine of violence. Proverbs 4:16-17
There are many people in the world who actually like to see successful people fail. Perhaps it’s class envy or just plain spite. I have seen others who want to see the righteous fail and are often very vocal about their desires. But, here’s the thing that we all need to be reminded of: we are being watched. Not only is our enemy, the Devil, out to destroy the righteous, but those who oppose the Gospel want to harm the cause.
Therefore, we need to guard our thoughts and our words carefully. Let those who oppose us and the Gospel do so because of the Gospel itself and not because of political stances we take for the moment, such as taxes, healthcare reform, immigration, gun control, or other common political causes.
Of course, it’s not wrong to have opinions or even strong opinions about these issues, but we need to be careful not to make them more important than they actually are.
And this, of course, is where we we need wisdom to know the difference.
