All the days of the oppressed are wretched, but the cheerful heart has a continual feast. Proverbs 15:15
In contrast to yesterday’s devotional, those without hope in the midst of suffering must be in despair. It has been said that there’s no such thing as an atheist in a foxhole and it’s probably true.
You hear stories of those without faith down to their last shred of hope, something they are clinging to until the very end. You hear of the miraculous conversion and subsequent transformation that comes when they finally have nothing to turn to but Christ.
But for every one of those you hear there are dozens more who lose even the tidbit of hope that they have. “What’s the meaning of it all? What’s the point?” they ask.
You and I have known these kinds of people throughout our lives. We must be ready to drop everything to come to their need. You may even be praying for these people now, that they would in fact come to the end of themselves. Continue to pray that God would reach out to them day by day, hour by hour.
