I lie down and sleep;
I wake again, because the Lord sustains me.
I will not fear though tens of thousands
assail me on every side. Psalm 3:5-6
These two verses side by side make for an interesting contrast. It’s like the Mr. Magoo cartoon. The world was constantly crumbling all around him, but he took no notice of it. It didn’t affect him because he was oblivious to it all.
This should be our prayer as we go to bed each night, that even though the world is swirling all around us, that He would sustain us and give us peace. It’s certainly not that we don’t have problems or enemies, but it’s the quiet confidence we have in a sustaining God.
