Look Dad, No Fear

The Lord is my light and my salvation—
whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life—
of whom shall I be afraid? Psalm 27:1

The question is rhetorical: if God is my light, my salvation, and the stronghold of my life, what do we have to fear?

The question is obvious: no one.

Even when we know this to be true, we often cower in fear. Why? The verse more than hints at the problem: fear. And the fact that it’s written this way in Scripture indicates that it’s probably a universal problem. So we can take comfort in the fact that we’re not alone in this struggle.

What would it cost us to be a bit bolder today than we were yesterday? This boldness can take on many forms (not just witnessing). It could mean making tough decisions quicker. It can mean standing up for truth when no one else is. It can also mean encouraging someone you don’t normally encourage. The list really is endless.

The Lord is my light and my salvation—
whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life—
of whom shall I be afraid?
