1 Why do you boast of evil, you mighty hero?
Why do you boast all day long,
you who are a disgrace in the eyes of God? Psalm 52:1
This is one of these verses that could have been written in 2014. There’s always been evil in the world, but the numbers of people who want to flaunt their evil is astounding. Sometimes they flaunt it for shock value. Sometimes it’s to make a statement. Often, though, others are thumbing their noses at those they know will oppose it.
Trying to look beyond the insults, anger, and profanity is difficult. We see rage, and have pity. We see the violence and see someone acting out that rage.
So, why do they boast? Well, because they think that God isn’t watching and they’ll never have to atone for their actions. They think that the God who created the universe is dead and uncaring.
We do have opportunities all around us to prove them wrong. It begins with empathy and prayer, that is, to be able to see what God sees and to feel what He feels, and to pray accordingly.
Of course it isn’t easy, but nothing worth doing rarely ever is easy.
