it does not boast, it is not proud. 1 Corinthians 13:4
“Look at me. Look at what I’ve done. Look how I’ve done so well!”
That’s a very dangerous position for a Christian to take, but doubly so for Christian leaders.
Christ Himself never boasted, but sought to serve and elevate others. If anyone could have boasted, it would have been Jesus, though it wasn’t in His nature to do so.
Often you’ll see boasting as “oneupmanship.” Someone will tell a story and immediately someone will “trump” that story with something bigger and greater. It’s boasting and definitely has no place in a church setting.
As you sit around this week talking with family and friends over the Thanksgiving table, listen to them boast, and you’ll see what I mean.
Thank the Lord we can have days like Thanksgiving to remind us what is important, family, friends, and the Lord God Almighty.
