Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation—but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it. For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live. Romans 8:12-13

I believe Paul here is referring to the list of earthly nature “deeds” he lists out in his letter to the Colossians.

Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.
Because of these, the wrath of God is coming.
You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived.
But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. Colossians 3:5-8

If we, in fact, put to death these misdeeds of the body, it would certainly be a great start in living according to the Spirit. It’s a tall order but we certainly have a capable God who is with us every step of the way.
