More Wisdom Please

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

The Apostle Paul is telling us three things that you can never go wrong in doing, pray, thanks, and rejoicing. We know it’s God’s will to do those things. Of course those three don’t really tell us which job to take, what major to have in college, who to marry, or where to live.

Or do they?

You can certainly make the case that you will receive the wisdom you need to make those decisions after you pray without ceasing, thanking God for the answer and then praising Him when it falls into place.

But we like things a little more concrete than that. We’d love to have God just tell us what to do and where to go because then we don’t have to be accountable for those decisions. We know that’s not how life works.

When we pray, God gives us enough wisdom to make those decisions. For certain, we may have to wrestle with those decisions depending on how fast you typically make decisions but He entrusts us – after we’ve prayed for wisdom – to make those decisions.

So, it all boils down to praying for wisdom again. That’s okay because we certainly need wisdom in every aspect and every day of our lives. You can never say you had too much wisdom; quite the contrary. We need more of it, and even more so in the days ahead.
